Nature

I sit in my balcony watching the cars pass before me. However, then I look further into nature and try my best to ignore not only the noises made from these engines that produce byproducts which are extremely toxic to our environment; but also the middle school across the street which is usually filled with kids running around screaming and playing with one another. Furthermore, I comply to gravity and tilt my head back to  focus on the creatures that fly in the blue sky above me, making it seem as though they are feathers gliding across what serves to be a boundless ocean for the few lucky organisms that posses the gift of defying gravity. If only I too could be able to escape from this world that revolves around technology to a world that is totally unknown. Yes, traveling on an airplane may be considered a situation in which a human unites with nature and the clouds; however, to be separated by a barrier which exists due to machines running off of greed, makes it much more difficult for one to fully connect with the heavens. During this observation, I had the need to close my eyes and allow myself to surrender to nature as its soothing energy ran through my body. Disassociating myself from reality and the world around me only for merely a few seconds mirrored a vacation that one cannot purchase with money, but can only be experienced when one acquiesces with nature and its meditating powers.

  2. Unfortunately, I had a similar experience during my observation. The disturbances from technology and other advancements have become a barrier to acquiesce with nature. It is rare in modern day society that we experience a unity with pure nature and when we do, we are puzzled and amazed. The absence of nature in our urban lives can only be reminded to us by a forceful observation of nature that we would not even consider doing if there was no benefit to it.

  3. I completely understand that soothing feeling you are talking about, Mariam. It is almost like I forgot about everything except for the seat in which I was sitting in. I also agree with your complaint of technology interfering with the true peace of nature. I think it is just our responsibility to find a way to get away from that technology for a whole to enjoy what surrounds us.

  4. As I was coming to an end with reading your observations, I thought you were about to ask for a vacation and a rest from school and people. However, I understood the true value you gave to nature. I totally concur with your implied idea that technology is what isolated people from nature because we have machines and other sources that work with nature instead of us. It is truly soothing to actually stay away from technology for a while just to see how it feels. Upon my own observation, I figured that all this time my phone and ipod do not provide me with that amazing feeling of being peaceful and free from society. I am sure you enjoyed it as well. Wonderful post Mariam!

  5. I also had the same calm feeling as soon as I ignored all the excess noise surrounding me. It was as if I was taken away from the real world and part of nature. Technology does interfere with our relationship with nature because we are so distracted that we do not have the time to observe and connect with nature the way we should. Your detailed description of how you felt at the moment was an attention grabber.

  6. The explanation you gave of your surroundings in nature are truly urban, but as you looked past all the noises you accomplished being one with nature. I as well felt the same feeling of peace, and it was priceless as you explained in your blog. People should always spare a few minutes of each ay without any electronic devices and go outside and breath the fresh air. Wherever you are, it will still make the difference!

  7. I agree with you completely and I love the descriptive language you used to describe all that you saw, heard and felt. I too when sitting in my backyard heard cars pass by and realized that a lot of the noises we hear are ones of engines. That may be because we live in a city like environment where there is a lot of transportation around us. However, I too think that the engine pollutes our surrounding s and even worse nature. But as I was reading the way you described your experience was one that I easily put myself in and I too could feel all that you felt. Nature really does have that power of making you forget where you are.

  8. I praise your ability to sense the beauty of nature, despite the intoxicating substances that flow through the air and the bothersome noises that are exerted from different directions. I can visualize the cacophony of cries, screeches, and shouts from the hyper-active children in school. I can imagine myself in that setting, but cannot believe that I could appreciate nature through the disconcerting sounds. Surprisingly, you were able to gaze past the disruptions and found peace and harmony through a thorough observation. Nature is a mystery and one may only begin to solve the enigma by spending time to meditate and bask in it's mellow and tranquil setting.
